Kenney Jones' new outfit

Kenney Jones has formed a new band with the prospect of recording and touring next year.

Mac DVD

Ian Mclagan & the Bump Band have a DVD available in the US. This will play on US systems only. There ate not believed to be any plans currently for a European version of this.

Happy Boys Happy Update

Roland Schmitt and Uli Twelker's book on the Small Faces, Humble Pie etc has been updated with a new version due for launch in early 2002.

Beat Club '67

The Small Faces are featured on a DVD called Beat Club '67 released in Germany but available through Freak Emporium in the UK. This includes a mimed version of Tin Soldier

Memorial Concert on CD

The Steve Marriott Memorial Concert should be released as a single CD in April of 2002. This will be followed at a later date by a boxed set that will include the whole three hour concert with a book and interviews with the participants. A video or DVD is still possible but may not see release until 2003.

Ronnie Lane Memorial Concert

This is now scheduled for April 1 2002 at the Royal Albert Hall in London. This will be a major event in aid of the MS Society.

New releases from Sanctuary/Castle Music

Sanctuary has re-released a number of Humble Pie and Small Faces albums. These include Humble Pie's As Safe as Yesterday Is and Town and Country. The Small Faces releases are There are But Four Small Faces and In Memorium.

Hello to Kenney

Kenney Jones married long-time partner Jayne Andrew with the wedding covered by Hello magazine in its 28 August issue. The article refers to the animated Ogdens project on which Kenney is still working.

Acid Drops

Coming fast and furious is another compilation of great UK psychedelic tracks. Acid Drops includes the Small Faces' Green Circles as well as the Herd's From the Underworld and many other classic and unknowns. Released next week it sounds great.

Nuggets II

A couple of Small Faces tracks but also Jimmy Winston's Real Crazy Apartment on a new compilation called Nuggets II Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond. This is a 4-CD set that includes a wealth of material. Apart from well-known and (now) widely available tracks from The Birds, Creation, Action etc, there are also rarities from the likes of the Idle race, Mockingbirds and the Eyes. Highly recommended.

Steve Marriott The Small Faces and Beyond

Direct from Rochdale is a new fanzine from Mick Taylor called Steve Marriott the Small Faces and beyond. This is a bumper 40-page issue with features including a review of the Steve Marriott Memorial Event, the split with Humble Pie, words and music to The Universal, interviews with Ian McLagan and Ronnie Lane, pictures, reviews and much more.

The fanzine is available for £3 UK or $5 (cash only) worldwide.

The In Crowd, The Ultimate Mod Collection

A 4-CD compilation to be released on 26 April is The In Crowd, The Ultimate Mod Collection 1958-1967. It is hard to disagree with this billing with the set comprising a strong mix of 1960s British "mod" tracks and, importantly, the music that brought it all about. The Small Faces feature strongly as do many of their influences and even Solomon Burke's Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, the model for What'Cha Gonna Do About It (also featured)

Amazon.com is listing a Steve Marriott CD to be released on 7 May 2001. This is a repackaged Live at Dingwalls with packet of Three in 1984.

Q Best Album Covers

Q magazine has produced the 100 Best Record Covers of All Time. Ogden's Nut Gone Flake ranks at number 26. the winner is the Sex Pistol's God Save the Queen single cover.

Ronnie Lane Rocket 69

This 2CD set taken from the German Rockpalast show recorded in March 1980 is available. The CDs feature both audio and video versions of the songs including some unreleased tracks.

The video and DVD The Life & Times of Steve Marriott is available from amazon.com. This is the US version and suitable for the USA and Canada only. The video features interviews as well as footage of the Small Faces and Humble Pie.

Steve Marriott Tribute Concert Sold Out

The Steve Marriott tribute concert is scheduled for 20 April 2001. This is at the Astoria, Charing Cross Road London. 

Midge Ure has confirmed that he will be playing and there is a possibility of an appearance from Steve Winwood. Paul Weller has now confirmed that he will be playing I'm Only Dreaming, I Got Mine and the Humble Pie song You're So Good For Me. Paul has also offered his scooter to be raffled or auctioned to raise money for the evening. This is a white 1967 SX200 in immaculate condition. Paul claims that it is worth £4,000-5,000.

Other acts are to be confirmed but may include Paul Weller fronting a band put together for the occasion possibly with Noel Gallagher. Other possible guests include: Roger Chapman, Glen Matlock, John's Children, Clem Clempson, Honeyboy Hickling, Toby Marriott, Debbie Bonham, Adrian Smith and Humble Pie. Other possible include Ronnie Wood, Peter Frampton, Jools Holland, Sam Brown, Roger Daltrey, Black Crowes, Ocean Colour Scene and others.

The Chords' Hey Girl

A "new" 2CD release from the Chords features a demo version of Hey Girl. This had appeared on the b-side of their hit Maybe Tomorrow. This is What They Want features 2 CDs of Chords songs and can be accessed on-line at http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000051TSK/boatzcouk.

Mod a Very British Phenomenon

The Small Faces are featured extensively in Terry Rawlings' latest work. He is known for co-authoring Quite Naturally and so will be known to Room for Ravers readers. The book is about more than music and explores the whole of the Mod culture from its roots through the 1960s, the 1979 "revival" and its present-day state.

Lined Up for 2001

Another bumper "fab four" year is planned. The main event will be the Steve Marriott Memorial Concert with the annual Small Faces Convention moving to late September at the Ruskin Arms. Other events to look out for are as follows. Full details will appear here as soon as they are available.
