on DVD Released at the end of October 2006, The Passing Show DVD is an excellent biography of Ronnie Lane compiled by Rupert Williams. This was shown by the BBC earlier in the year. (Added 8 August 2006) Kim McLagan Room for Ravers is very sad to report the death in a car crash in Texas of Kim McLagan, wife of Small Faces keyboard player Ian/Mac. Mac and Kim had been married since 1978 and had one of the strongest marriages in the music industry. After they located to Texas, Kim opened a skin care salon. Our thoughts are with Mac and Mandy (Kim's daughter from her first marriage to Keith Moon) at this difficult time. (Added 3 August 2006) Out of Sight The Small Faces are featured on a new compilation of 1960s soul, R&B and blues tracks that continues the series of The In Crowd compilations. Influences A new occasional series from Room for Ravers looks at the artists that influenced the band. To start off where better than Sam Cooke who wrote Shake, the first track on the first album. (Added 25 July 2006) The Jones Gang The Jones Gang is playing on Saturday August 5th at Carew Airfield near Tenby in Pembrokeshire. The concert helps to support two charities. More details will be available in due course but put the date in your diary now. Expect tickets to sell out fast. (Added 5 July 2006) Nice Too Dave Clark's follow-up to Nice One is, naturally enough, Nice Too. This documents all the albums, singles and CDs produced by Steve Marriott since leaving the Small Faces. Added 16 March 2006 Mac back in A New England Ian McLagan is touring again with Billy Bragg in the UK during April to June 2006. (Added 1 March 2006) Psych Out! Long Agos and Worlds Apart is included on a CD of English psychedelia that is free with the April 2006 issue of Mojo magazine. (Added 27 February 2006) Daily Mail A two-page feature in the Daily Mail's Weekend section of 25 February 2006 included an interview with Toni Marriott. (Added 27 February 2006) Ronnie Lane's 60th birthday A number of initiatives have been announced to celebrate what would have been Ronnie Lane's birthday on 1 April 2006. The first US release of Ronnie Lane solo material will be Just for a Moment on the new Lane Signature Sounds label from Ronnie's estate. This is 20-track retrospective of Lane's career from 1972-1980. Ian McLagan & the Bump Band will be releasing a CD of Ronnie Lane material that will be ready by the 1 April gig at the Alamo Drafthouse. Pete Townshend is preparing a new version of his album with Ronnie Rough Mix that includes four previously unissued bonus tracks. (Added 3 February 2006) The Passing Show on DVD A DVD of the BBC Passing Show programme is due for release. This is likely to be largely the same as a film version that is to run at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin Texas from March 31 after a premiere in mid-March. The film will be 45 minutes longer than the BBC version. The DVD is expected to last a further 15 minutes with musical performances of Ronnie's songs taped exclusively for the DVD. (Added 3 February 2006) The Passing Show Friday January 6 at 9pm on BBC4. This is the long-awaited BBC documentary about the life of Ronnie Lane. This includes interviews with Eric Clapton, Kenney Jones, Ian McLagan and Pete Townshend as well as with Ronnie's widow Susan Lane. This is follows by footage of Ronnie Lane performances at the BBC. This includes music from the Small Faces, Faces and Ronnie's own band Slim Chance. (Added 2 January 2006) Tin Soldier It has been some time in the making but eh 3-CD anthology of Steve Marriott's work is finally due for release at the end of January 2006. The three discs comprise his work with the Small Faces, Humble Pie as well as later tracks. Also included are his very first recording as the Artful Dodger in Oliver and tracks from the Moments, Steve's pre-Small Faces band. (Added 18 December 2005) Humble Pie - The Atlanta Years The 2-CD set called Humble Pie - The Atlanta Years is now available. This includes a number of Humble Pie classics. Under Review Due in the shops in November 2005 is a new Small Faces DVD called under review. This claims to have footage previously unavailable on DVD along with interviews with Paulo Hewitt, John Hellier, Chris Welch and Keith Altham. Nice The Small Faces Songbook compiled by Paul Weller and John Hellier is now available. (Added 9 October 2005) The Jones Gang The debut album from The Jones Gang is available in the US and on import in the UK. This features tracks such as Mr Brown and Angel. The latter was released as a single and is reported to have entered the Billboard chart at number 10. (Added 9 September 2005) Ogden's Nut Gone Flake Special Edition Believe it when you see it but a 3CD Ogden's Nut Gone Flake Special Edition is due for a release in the first half of 2006. This includes stereo and mono mixes of the album plus the unbroadcast BBC Classic Albums programme. unleashed A re-release on CD is the Marriott album that was recorded a year after the demise of Humble Pie. This features British and American sides, reflecting the make-up of the two backing bands. A re-recording of Wam Bam Thank You Mam has different lyrics to the Small Faces' version. (Added 12 July 2005) What'Cha Gonna Do About It? The Mod Aid 20 single is now available. (Added 25 May 2005) Small Faces Convention 2005 In celebration of 40 years since the first Small Faces single, the 2005 Small Faces Convention will be moving to the Marquee in Leicester Square, Central London. (Added 25 May 2005) Mojo Mod Club Free with the June edition of Mojo magazine is the Mod Club CD. This includes The Small Faces' Get Yourself Together as well as great track including PP Arnold with Rod Stewart, The Animals, The Birds and Ike & Tine Turner. recordings released Steve Marriott's final recordings with Peter Frampton that were recorded shortly before his death are to be released as part of a 2-CD set of Marriott rarities called Rainy Changes. Available from Wapping Wharf Records in May, the CDs also feature the full Official Receivers album. the Ol' Tosser It has been a long time in preparation but the full Steve Marriott Memorial Event from 2001 is now available on a 3-CD set that also includes a glossy booklet and an unheard interview with Kenney Jones from 2001. This is a superb collection and should not be missed. (Added 3 March 2005) Small Faces hit the singles charts! Released as a limited edition teaser for the Immediate Mod Box Set, the Small Faces' Don't Burst My Bubble has been released as a single backed with PP Arnold & Rod Stewart dueting on Come Home Baby. This is laden with interviews and reviews as well as news of forthcoming East End Four-related events and releases. Box Set The Small Faces and PP Arnold are featured extensively on a new compilation of tracks from the Immediate vaults. This is an excellent line-up of tracks although would they all be classified as "Mod" artists? (Added 5 February 2005) Modaid Due 21 February is the Modaid single that supports Band Aid and the Asian Tsunami appeal. The single features covers of What'Cha Gonna Do About It and Afterglow with performers including PP Arnold, Steve Craddock, Chris Farlowe, Dennis Greaves and many more. (Added 22 January 2005) The end of royalties? Fresh from securing royalties for the Small Faces, there is a new threat in the end of copyright. Records lose their copyright protection after 50 years and so What'Cha Gonna Do About It will lose protection in 2015. Under current law, the Small Faces will cease receiving royalties from the song after this date. For Kenney Jones, the royalties are his pension. In an article in the Sunday Telegraph of 16 January 2005, Kenney voices his concern. (Added 16 January 2005) |
