Johnny Kidd & the Pirates were a hugely influential band and had a major hit with Shakin' All Over which went to number one in the UK. Although the line-up of the Pirates changed, Kidd remained constant and continued to tour the UK. One night in 1966 the car he was travelling in after a night out in Lancashire crashed into an oncoming vehicle. Kidd died instantly while bass player Nick Simper was badly injured. Simper later became a founder member of Deep Purple. To be completed |
