All The Rage

By Ian "Mac" McLagan

One of nature's "sidemen," Ian McLagan has nonetheless enjoyed a protracted place at rock n roll's high table, since being plucked from obscurity to play keyboards in the Small Faces in 1965. Next came The Faces, of course another band whose partying scaled almost Olympian heights. For the past two decades, he's kept afloat touring with the likes of Dylan and The Stones as well as the odd session job. He's even married to the former Mrs Keith Moon. It's been a life stuffed with tales of naughtiness and his chunky memoir coughs them up with relish; from wall to wall groupies to the kind of snorting that practically qualified him for Colombian citizenship. Now living surprisingly unscathed in Austin, he's penned a chirpy insider's portrait of some crazy times and even crazier people, seemingly still hopeful of one more big Faces payday.
